Returned Mail and Content Violation Messages

Question: Lately I've been getting messages that say they are from "Symantec_[AntiVirus for SMTP Gateway]?Create." Some of these are labeled "Returned Mail" and some are "Content Violation." Either way, they imply that I've sent mail to a particular address, and either that the address doesn't exist, or that my mail was rejected because it contained a virus. The problem is this: I never sent any email to that address! What's going on here? - Neil P.

Answer: There are a couple of likely culprits. First, many viruses and worms send themselves to everyone in the address book of an infected computer. Thus, if you've received one of these viruses and clicked on the attachment, your system might be infected and sending mail to people without your knowledge.

The other possibility is that you're not infected, but a virus or a spammer is "spoofing" your address (that is, using yours as its return address instead of the real sender's address). Your address might have been pulled from the address book of the recipient or another victim.

This is more than just annoying, because if a spammer sends spam that appears to be from your address, this can cause ISPs and individuals to put your address into their "blacklists" (lists of known spammers) and the mail that you legitimately send would be blocked from reaching those recipients. The only way to correct this is to contact those who maintain the blacklists and explain what happened and convince them to remove your address. The other solution is to change email addresses (which can be a major pain).

Alien Agenda By Jum Marrs

Alien Agenda is the silk thread leading the way through the maze of UFO literature into the heart of the UFO controversy. While he begins with the premise that the existence of UFOs cannot be denied, Jim Marrs (author of Crossfire, the mother of all John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy books) boldly strides into the battle over what UFOs are and why they are here. Marrs's investigative skills are invaluable in this re-examination of questions that have been overlooked, unaddressed, or unsatisfactorily resolved.
